The bank cited “the volume and sensitive nature of the non-public information” as the reason for filing, according to The Register, which first reported the incident. Community Bank did not specify how many customers were affected, what AI application was involved, or how the data reached the unauthorized system.

What Happened

The filing’s language suggests an internal data handling failure rather than an external breach. Based on the disclosure, it appears someone working for Community Bank uploaded customer data to an AI tool outside the bank’s approved systems, according to TechCrunch.

Community Bank confirmed no operational impact occurred. Customers were not prevented from accessing accounts or payment services. The bank said it is “evaluating the customer data that was affected” and conducting notifications as required by federal and state laws.

CEO John Montgomery did not respond to requests for comment from either TechCrunch or The Register.
